When he was only ten years old, Laszlo and his family were forced to leave Hungary at the end of the bloody uprising in late 1956. The family crossed the border into Austria, where the Red Cross found sponsorship for them in Northern Italy, enabling them to settle there. As a fine artist, Laszlos father was commissioned to paint large frescos for a wealthy hotelier who later became his art dealer.

Having spent almost two years there, the family moved south to Rome. Here Laszlos father found work within the Vatican in the restoration department. The family lived here for just over a year until they made the dramatic decision to move to Australia.

They arrived in Sydney on the East coast in early 1960.

After completing high school Laszlo spent a year studying art and basic skills with a popular artist of the time, Zoltan Fenyes. He gained a place in the National Art School in Sydney in 1966. Leaving college in 1969, he went to work for the ABC in Sydney (an Australian television network) as a graphic artist and animator, later in charge of the stills photographic department.

He left in 1971 to take up a scholarship for further fine art studies at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. He was awarded Arts Cadet of the Year and given a post as a part-time tutor while still studying.

In 1974 he completed his course and was given his first solo exhibition at the Desborough Art Galleries in Perth. The show was a great success and works were bought by several major academic institutions for their collections, including The Art Gallery of Western Australia, Curtin University and The University of Western Australia.

Between 1975 and 1978 Laszlo embarked on further academic studies, including English Literature, Social Anthropology, Psychology, Statistics and Art History. During this period he travelled to Mexico and enrolled for a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Mexico City Arts College, San Carlos.

At the end of 1978 personal matters obliged him to return to Australia, but as a result of a visit to Tasco while in Mexico, he was able to establish a business importing Mexican silver jewellery, also designing and making his own.

In 1982 Laszlo returned to painting with a vengeance and, in collaboration with two other established Perth artists, organised the Fremantle Artists Association which became known as NEXUS Galleries. Eventually, this developed and was renamed PRAXIS, a government-funded body at which point Laszlo moved on.

In 1988 he was offered a position tutoring colour-theory and anatomy at Curtin University in Perth, and conducted painting and art theory courses for the University of Western Australia summer school. He conducted classes in painting and drawing for the Arts Access programme conducted by the Fremantle Arts Centre in Western Australia, and tutored for video study tapes of the courses.

In 1990 Laszlos entire solo exhibition at the High St Galleries, Fremantle, Western Australia, was bought by Alan Bond the Australian entrepreneur who won the Americas cup for Australia.

In 1996 Laszlo met and married Frieda Hughes, daughter of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath, who was living in Western Australia at the time. In 1997 they moved back to London where they renovated their home together and concentrated on joint exhibitions of their art, until 2004, when the lack of studio space became too constrictive and they move to Mid Wales where they are currently renovating again, and preparing for yet another exhibition&&&&.

Laszlo says of his Millions series: The concept is for people to explore their own creativity through the simple offering of a doorway using multiples of a recognisable though stylised image. This image is indicated using only minimal information therefore limiting visual imposition, and allowing you, the viewer to find form and shape of your own making within the painting. Each painting can therefore be many things to many people, depending on the mood and mind of each individual.
